Granum speaks out on vigil uproar

I read her supposed sincere apology in the paper. It was neither sincere nor an apology. Her statement blamed the people that took offense rather than owning up to what she did. She still obviously does not get it. It isn't about gun ownership or the NRA. It is about her inappropriate use of the public trust to gain an audience she otherwise would not have had. No one came to that vigil with the intention that it would be a political event one way or another. For her to say it wasn't or she didn't intend to be political is disingenuous at best (she did, after all, have a petition for political action already prepared to circulate). If someone had gotten up at the vigil and delivered a litany about the the right to bear arms, I would have been equally outraged. What she did was wrong.

I will never attend another 'event' organized by Ellen Granum and will encourage others to similarly abstain until such time as a genuine apology is given to the community. This may seem petty, but to me her actions were disgraceful and had less to do with the victims and more to do with her own self-interest.
