It’s a long way to the ground from the back of a horse when you’re just a little kid but a group of special needs children are learning to be excited about riding.
Lamar County’s Conservatory for the Arts has begun a program of therapeutic riding for special education students from Lamar and several surrounding counties.
Matthew Blevins of Milner listens to instruction from Gretchen Ahrens at the therapeutic riding class of Lamar’s Conservatory for the Arts. Ahrens is director of the Camp Calvin Equestrian Center, chosen by conservatory director Trish Henry for professionalism and attention to safety. Matthew is waiting for the helpers to lead “Buck” out of the mounting area so he can get started.
