As a parent of 2 daughters who have attended the high school here and one is graduating this year, I am hoping that there will be some mature thinking going on at this meeting.
I personally feel that the charge is a horrid one to have no matter whom you are. Yet, there will be a court date that has not actually happened. So, in my opinion, I feel that Mr. Austin should publicly apologize to the students in a calm manner for his mistake and finish out this school year in his position.
Yes, he should be punished if found guilty. Yes, as a person in his position he should be held to higher standards. Yes, he is human.
The courts will make the charges and determination when that court date is had. Until then, the school board should consider the students first and their personal anger second.
Last Call, this will be handled in good time as it's intended to be handled.
The local newspaper is not the judge and jury, the employees have to wait until news is released before they can post stories. They are not riding around in the cop cars making arrests.
You will have your pound of flesh soon, I'm sure, and then you can feel smug about a man whose bad judgement cost him dearly.
Bad judgement? Truly it was bad judgement. Our schools' leaders are supposed to be role models for the children they supervise, good managers of teachers, aides, staff, etc.
And this man was arrested on a DUI. I have little sympathy for him. If he had a bad day, and needed some "relaxation" then he should have stayed home. I won't judge him, but I have seen what alcohol can and will do to otherwise good people. I am not sympathetic to it.
