Trojans fall just short

The Lamar County Trojans shut out top ranked Calhoun in the 2nd half but could not make enough plays and fell 21-14 in the Class AA state playoffs. Lamar had a shot at the end but a last pass was intercepted in the endzone.

The game may have set a record for the most Lamar fans to ever attend a road contest. Afterwards, almost every Calhoun fan congratulated Lamar on their effort - the best turned in against the Yellow Jackets in two years.

You all did an awesome job. We are so proud of you boys and coaches. If there is anything we can ever do for any of you, please come see us. Congrats seniors you went out with a bang. You should be proud. Can't wait to see where you go from here. Go Big Blue.

The Trojans may have been outscored last night but they were not beaten. The Calhoun Yellow Jackets know the Lamar County Trojans were there last night and will not soon forget it. The Calhoun Times states their win "did not come easy". They even called the Trojans "Fiesty". The Trojans took away a lot of the Yellow Jackets presumed sting last night. This was a great game,a great season and just wait till next year. Hats off to the team and their coaches.

It was a thrill to be there in Calhoun to see this battle on the field, and to witness an incredible LCHS Trojan Football team play aggressively against the state champions as they did! People sitting all around us in the stands had driven in from cities around the North Georgia area to see this game, and to see these two great teams compete on the field last Friday - what a tribute! Our home crowd drove in to support our team in big numbers, as they did for the other away playoff game the week before, united in the support of our team's quest for the Dome. Not one of us were disappointed in our Trojans effort against bigger players, and much larger teams in all four of our 2A playoff rounds - just incredible what this team, coaches and players did. This Lamar Trojan football team certainly earned "respect" this season in the state.
This group of young adults is to be commended for their teamwork, conditioning, and commitment to be the best that they can be, never ever giving up! Dr. Stephens has instilled in each of them much more than just football this season, but life, and how to be successful - very proud of these young players, their coaching staff, the incredible band(wow!), and our cheerleaders.
Thank you so much for the spirit that you've all brought to your school, to our city, and to our great community of Lamar County in 2012. I can't wait for it to start up all over again next season.

That was quality play Trojans. You took on a team 3 times your size and made it a knucklebiter for both sides right to the last second. That game will prove to be the closest game for Calhoun in years and I expect that the Trojans will have been a much harder team for them than Jefferson will. So even though the paperwork will not show it, Trojans are definitely the #2 AA team in all of GA. Way to go Trojans. Your community is very proud of your accomplishments.
