Walmart developer Chris Harper wouldn't say much to the Herald-Gazette about the proposed Walmart Supercenter here but the City of Barnesville will embark on rezoning the property involved at a 5:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
I have been told by a pretty reliable source that we are being duped into believing that Wal Mart is lookung to locate a "Superstore" here when, in reality, their plan is to buid a "Neighborhood Market" which is a grocery store designed to be the opposite of superstores offering a variety of products including a full line of groceries. Walmart Markets are a quarter of the size of a typical Walmart Supercenter employing 80–100 employees and offering about 28,000 items.
Ridiculous........The folks running the show are don't make sense, have they even thought about logistics ????? Let's see, the traffic already with the school and LCSO is already a nightmare, so now you're going to add a Walmart ????? Those in Barnesville Leadership positions are real "thinkers".
Maybe not specifically on Point, But somewhat related...We have a Brand New Nice Tag (Tax Comissioners) Office, Nice Elementary School, Nice Middle School. Nice Comissioner Offices in the Martin Building. Gorgeous New Sports Field with Track. Has Anyone Been to the County Health Dept lately. As a Registerede Nurse I am embarrassed by the condition of the building (Old Barnesville Academy Gym). Pike Co which is comparable in Size to Lamar has a nice Health Dept as does Thomasaton. I think Our County Comissioners need to Develop a Three Year Plan to Improve/Relocate the Health Dept (There are also a couple of other county depts there)...
Change to many people is like the dark room behind a locked door with unfamiliar noises coming from behind the door. That is what the fear of the unknown does to us. Negative reactions to change are very typical. One thing for sure is if Walmart wants to come to your city, then your opinions don't matter.
