‘˜Sharp Objects’ premiere set

By Walter Geiger HBO’s ‘˜Sharp Objects’ will premiere on Sunday, July 8 at 9 p.m. on the cable network. The eight-episode dramatic series was filmed in large part here last summer. The thriller is based on the book of the same name by Gillian Flynn who was here for the shoot and was a co-producer. It was directed by Emmy winner Jean-Marc Vallee. Amy Adams stars as Camille Preaker, a newspaper reporter dispatched to her hometown of Wind Gap. Mo. to cover the murders of two young girls and things devolve from there. Other cast members include Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven. Downtown Barnesville was transformed into Wind Gap for the shoot which took about six weeks and scenes were shot at locations all over the county. If the series is well received, and all indications are that it will be, the crews will return for work on season two. Chamber president Christopher Deraney is working on plans for a watch party for the July 8 premiere. A screening of ‘˜Sharp Objects’ will open the prestigious ATX Television Festival in Austin June 7. Adams, Flynn and Vallee will be among those participating in a panel discussion about the series.
