Local Empty Stocking Fund volunteers Glenn and Vickie Forsyth report that 282 kids have been approved for assistance from the ESF this Christmas and the rush is on to gather toys and much-needed cash.
“I have had several calls for additional assistance but have them on a waiting list as we need to take care of those who applied and were approved in the original time frame first. Also we are cutting it close on funds,” Vickie reported Friday.
The most popular items on the wish lists of needy kids are headphones, electric scooters, Barbie dolls and anything Marvel. Toys and monetary donations can be dropped off anytime at the downtown Barnesville fire station.
Another big opportunity to help arrives Thursday as United Bank hosts its annual After Hours to benefit the fund. That event runs from 5-7 p.m. at the main bank branch downtown.
