A 9/11 remembrance event will be held in Barnesville Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.Woodmen of the World Lodge 199 and the Lamar County fire department will hold a 10th anniversary In Honor and Remembrance Ceremony for the victims and heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the former Lamar County water authority building Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m.’Woodmen of the World members and associates all over the nation organize In Honor and Remembrance ceremonies yearly,’ said Lodge 199 president Maxine Gibson. ‘These special patriotic events give members, family and friends a chance to grieve over lives lost that tragic day and pay respect to heroes who responded. It’s evolved into a public forum to thank local firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians and the brave men and women who lost their lives or are serving in the war against terrorism.’There will be a flagpole dedication and the posting of colors by the Barnesville police department and Lamar County sheriff’s office color guards. A representative of the city and county fire departments will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.Also being honored at this ceremony will be firefighter retiree Mary Duffey.
