$9.56 million SPLOST vote called

The elected and appointed bodies governing Lamar County and its municipalities unanimously agreed to call a SPLOST referendum at an intergovernmental meeting this morning. The vote to extend the special local option sales tax will be held on March 15, 2011. The SPLOST,if approved by voters, is expected to raise a minimum of $9,564,519. Of that money, Lamar County will get $5,356,131; Barnesville will get $3,730,162; Milner will get $382,581 and Aldora will get $95,645. Projects include infrastructure improvements, equipment replacement, recreation, fire protection, paving, bridge repair, Milner library construction, expansion of the B-LC Library and renovation of the LC Service Center at the old Barnesville Academy building.
