Tucked away in the backyard of Scott Cone’s Lamar County home is an explosion of color cultivated through hours of love and labor.Cone grows dahlias, a bushy perennial originally cultivated by the Aztecs for food, ceremony and decorative purposes. They bloom in August through late October or early November.In addition to tending his own garden, Cone will judge at the Georgia Dahlia Show on Sept. 26-27 at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
