AA DIAMOND TROJANS DISPOSE OF AAAA STOCKBRIDGE TIGERS

The Trojans began the week with a uninspired win over the Region 4-AAAA Stockbridge Tigers on Monday, April the 27th, by a score of 3-0. However, the Trojans played solid defense behind starting — and, winning — pitcher, Trent Nix. The Trojan’s coaches had to dig deep into their roster to find enough pitching to manage 5-games within 5-days this week, including a followup doubleheader at Columbus with the Region 5-AA Jordan Red Jackets on Tuesday, April the 28th. Nix didn’t disappoint in his season debut against the Tigers, in giving up only 1-hit & striking-out 5-hitters, while working on the mound for 5 complete innings. Marc English came-on in relief of Nix in the bottom of the 6th-&-7th innings to close it out for the Trojans. English, also, allowed only 1-hit in his 2-innings of work. The Trojans scored single runs in the 1st, 3rd, & 4th innings, while leaving 9-base runners stranded in the game. In the first inning, Blane Parker tripled, and scored when T.J. English lined an rbi single into left field. Fast-forward to the 3rd-&-4th innings, and note that Calvin Adams reached base on a third strike, when the baseball got away from the Stockbridge Catcher. Adams advanced to 3rd in the same inning, and scored on a Sac-Fly by Devin Couch. Then, in the 4th-inning, Bailey Thompson singled, moved to 2nd on a stolen base, and scored after reaching third on a hard hit ground ball by Calvin Adams. But, the story of the game was the 9-men that the Trojans left on the bases, that could have blown the game open to give their pitchers some much-needed insurance runs. Aside from the steady pitching from Nix and English, the Trojan’s defense performed admirably, when they had to — by turning a couple of nifty-inning-ending double plays to hold the Tigers at bay. They did commit 2-errors in the game, however on booted-ground-balls to the infield. Offensively, it was a good night for T.J. English (3-3), Blane Parker (1-4; 3B; RBI), Michael Sneed (1-3), Bailey Thompson (1-2), & Jake Shockley (1-3). The Trojans were directed by Assistant Head Coach — Dave McKenna — in the absence of Head Coach Greg Williams, who attended the Lovett-Blessed Trinity Game in Roswell for scouting purposes in the upcoming Class-AA State Playoffs.
