ACC title game: an epic shipment of fail?

After Georgia defeated Georgia Tech Saturday and South Carolina routed Clemson, punsters are now referring to Saturday’s ACC title game as the battle for fourth place in the SEC East. Georgia’s 30-24 upset of Tech at Grant Field knocked the Jackets out of the top 10. South Carolina’s rout banished Clemson from the rankings all together. Those two outcomes removed a lot of the luster from the ACC title matchup. The SEC title game, meanwhile, will feature the top two teams in the country: Florida and Alabama. The situation prompted this note from Paul, at the always entertaining Exiting Bobby Dodd Stadium at Mark Richt Field, I couldn’t help but wonder if the ACC Championship is even real. It’s beginning to feel like a marketing ploy on par with New Coke, Amway or Suffrage.’¨Seriously, if no one goes to the game and no one watches on TV, doesn’t that put the entire tree falling in the woods theory to the test? Have you ever seen the ACC Championship football trophy? Have you ever met anyone who has attended the event? Me either.’¨If there were ever a less purposeful gathering of overhyped fail than you’ll find in Tampa this coming weekend, I can’t name it. What do you think?
