Access to Honeysuckle Lane from Gordon Road will be closed beginning Monday

Honeysuckle Lane at Gordon Road will be blocked off beginning Monday, Feb. 20 for repairs to the sewer line that runs along Gordon Road. Honeysuckle will be accessible from Holmes Street while the work is underway.

The roadblock could be in place for as long as three weeks.

Crews will be replacing the existing 10-inch line with a new 16-inch sewer main. The line is a major artery carrying sewerage from a large portion of the city to the waste water treatment facility.

There was a major spill in the area of the road closure Feb. 5 which was attributed to heavy rain, deteriorating pipe and inadequate pipe capacity.

“Aging sewer infrastructure is a problem throughout the city. It is not uncommon for sewer lines to be over 50 years old. We are actively working to upgrade the system,” city manager Tim Turner said.
