Advance voting began Monday Oct. 14 and will run through Friday Nov. 1 at the registrar’s office. Statistics on the number of first-day advance and absentee voters was unavailable at press time.Voters may view their sample ballot, print absentee ballot applications and print voter registration applications by visiting the Georgia Secretary of State’s website at sos.ga.gov/mvp. Those with questions about voting status or who want to request an absentee ballot can call the office at 770-358-5235.’We have 9,543 active voters and 2,260 inactive voters,’ said registrar Anita Reid. ‘Inactive voters are still eligible to vote and doing so will automatically change their status back to active.’Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day Tuesday, Nov. 5. Barnesville and Milner both have city council races.Countywide, a special election will let voters approve or disapprove a homestead exemption from Lamar County school ad valorem taxes of up to $7,000 of the assessed value of the homestead after a specified fiveyear phase-in period for citizens age 70 and older.
