All Stars give it their best shot

By Ken K. Green The Lamar County 9/10 all star baseball team competed in the state Dixie Youth tournament in Leesburg last week, losing both games they played in the double elimination tourney. After being rained out on opening day, the team took the field for round one, falling to Winder 13-1. Chaderian Driver doubled to lead the local all stars at the plate. Michael Lowe Jr. had a RBI single and Josh Rooks added a base hit. Caleb Thompson started on the mound for Lamar while twin brother Colin pitched in relief. Facing elimination, Lamar County lost to Albany 11-1 in a loser’s bracket game. Tabien Hardin doubled for Lamar while Colin Thompson, Aderrius Barron and Jonah Stout singled. Justin Efrid pitched for the locals. Lamar recreation director Buddy Lanier said he was proud of the boys for making it to the state tournament and that they represented the community well. Coaches for the team are Wayne Thompson, Derrick Barron and Nathaniel Rooks.
