Alleged baby beater indicted; hearing postponed

By Walter Geiger A woman who allegedly bashed her three-month-old daughter against a headboard multiple times was indicted by the March term Lamar County grand jury last week. Linda Jessica Gunn was indicted on three of the seven counts of first degree cruelty to children lodged against her. The other four counts were not presented. Instead, the grand jury opted to indict her on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of second degree cruelty to children. She will be arraigned on those charges soon. Gunn was due in court Tuesday to seek a reduction in her bond but her lawyer could not attend due to a broken ankle. That hearing has been reset for next week. Gunn has been in jail under a $250,000 cash bond set by Judge E. Byron Smith last August. The case developed March 4, 2014 after she took the child to a doctor with a broken femur and medical personnel discovered multiple other injuries indicating a pattern of abuse.
