Alleged copper thieves arrested

Spalding County authorities have arrested two young men they say stole copper from a Georgia Power substation. The full release from Capt. Tony Ranieri of the Spalding County S.O. follows: Over the last several months ‘cooper thieves’ have hit some of the power sub stations located throughout Griffin. According to Sheriff Stewart investigators have been working long hours attempting to solve the thefts which paid off last week when investigators arrested two suspects from Griffin. According to Stewart the Georgia Power sub station located on Pine Street, and the Georgia Transmission Corporation station on Ga Hwy 155 were targeted by 18 year old Kevin Tyler Jones of Griffin and 26 year old Charles Ray Sanders III also from Griffin. Both suspects have been arrested and have been charged with numerous Felony Theft by Taking counts. During their crime spree both of these suspects caused more than 21,000.00 dollars worth of damage in order to get the little bit of cooper they got. As most people know cooper theft is becoming more and more each day, the suspects cause more property damage than what they get when they cash the cooper in said Stewart. Stewart stated that if convicted the District Attorney’s Office will also ask for restitution for the damage caused during the crime spree. Both suspects are being held in the Spalding County jail.
