Alleged Grove St. shooter pleads not guilty

A man charged with shooting his neighbor and alleged methamphetamine dealer in the face with a high-powered rifle entered not guilty pleas to multiple charges in Lamar County superior court today. Ronald Eugene Smith, 28, is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence. He allegedly shot and killed 56-year-old Charles Graves Adams in the pre-dawn darkness January 30. The shooting was tied to a meth transaction gone bad, prosecutors say. Adams died instantly on the front porch of his Grove Street duplex.
