A man who operated in Lamar County and kept an office in Milner has been busted in connection with a real estate Ponzi scheme, according to http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/police-say-fraudulent-lender-102161.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstabDeKalb County police say Anthony Ray ripped off some 30 victims to the tune of $5 million. His first victims were his own elderly parents whom he bilked out of over $160,000, authorities said.Two victims, Mr. and Mrs. William Thrash, first saw Ray’s presentation at their church in Milner. They told police they trusted Ray because the presentation was made by their pastor. The Thrashes lost over $60,000 to Ray’s scheme, police said.The front for Ray’s scheme was a business called Key Funding Group which operated in Lamar, Spalding, Gwinnett, Fulton and DeKalb counties and had offices in Milner, Griffin and Alpharetta, according to authorities.Ray is charged with operating a Ponzi scheme, financial identity fraud, theft by deception and mortgage fraud. He is being held in the DeKalb jail on a $980,000 bond.Police believe there may be more unidentified victims.
