Alleged shooter busted in SWAT raid released on bond

A 25-year-old Barnesville man, who was arrested during raids by the Georgia State Patrol SWAT team here July 1, has been released on bond. Judge Tommy Wilson set bond for Khalif Lee at $25,000. BB’s Bonding assisted Lee in posting the bond and he was released shortly thereafter. Lee, an ex-con and alleged drug dealer, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with the June 29 shooting of 18-year-old Justin Lee Efird at Efird’s apartment on Greenwood Street in Barnesville. Efird was shot with a .40 caliber handgun, apparently through a window. He was transported to a Macon trauma center and is recovering. The SWAT team, with sniper cover, hit a home at 151 Grove Street where Lee was reportedly living. He was not in the home but was tracked down at Fuller’s Trailer Park and taken into custody without incident a short time later. A companion of Lee’s, 19-year-old Raphael Khalil Kelly who lived in the trailer park, was charged with obstruction. Lee was on probation for multiple convictions in Gwinnett County at the time of his arrest here. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, he was convicted on charges of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession of cocaine, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana and DUI. Those charges stemmed from an arrest dated Feb. 1, 2016. Sentenced to a total of 13 years, he went to the prison in nearby Butts County on Nov. 29, 2016 but was released just over two months later on Jan. 30, 2017.
