The Lamar County Animal Shelter, which closed in late July due to sealant issues discovered by director Tyler White, reopened Thursday following final approval from USDA inspectors Wednesday. The flooring system in the dog kennels was out of compliance due to water absorption issues and cross-contamination risks.
Valen Flooring, a contractor with extensive experience in veterinary and animal control shelter work, removing the old sealant and applied two coats of epoxy sealant along with doing other mitigation work. The new flooring should last seven to 10 years before resealing is needed again, White said.
“We are committed to transparency, public safety and the highest standards of animal care. We appreciate the community’s patience and support as we work to reopen stronger and better equipped to serve,” White said.
