Barnesville-Lamar County will honor its best and brightest Thursday at the 33rd annual Community Awards Banquet. The event is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Barnesville Civic Center.Multiple community awards will be presented at the banquet.The Chamber of Commerce sponsors two awards: Outstanding Citizen and Businessperson of the Year. The Outstanding Citizen winner serves as grand marshal of the Buggy Days parade in September.The 2016 nominees for Outstanding Citizen (in alphabetical order) are: James Blackmon, Dorothy Carter, Paul Stinson, Tim Turner and Brad White. Those for Businessperson of the Year are Stacey Ard, Phillip Breedlove and Missy Ware.Other awards that will be given include: Volunteer of the Year Award (Barnesville Lion’s Club), Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award (Dewaine T. Bell Difference Makers), Farmer of the Year Award (Barnesville-Lamar County Farm Bureau), Career Woman of the Year Award (Barnesville Rotary Club), the Britton Cauthen Firefighter of the Year Award (Barnesville-Lamar County Fire Department), and the STAR Student/STAR Teacher.Tempe Korb was previously announced as STAR student. She chose Kenny Roberts as her STAR teacher.Last year’s Outstanding Citizen was Bruce Akins.
