Apparent home invasion probed

Sheriff’s investigators continue to probe an apparent home invasion burglary that occurred in the 1800 block of Highway 36 East in Milner July 16 and left an elderly man with head injuries. Investigators say 89-year-old Bubber Barkley was struck in the head by a young black male who attacked him with a metal object at his residence at 1854 Hwy. 36 East. Barkley left his home after the assault and went to his daughter’s residence. He then returned home and called 911. He was taken to a Griffin hospital for treatment. His assailant fled in a white vehicle with a loud muffler, according to radio traffic. The incident remains under investigation, according to sheriff Larry Waller.
