Armed citizen waylays alleged thieves

An armed man interrupted an alleged theft at property on Coffey Road Tuesday afternoon and held three suspects at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived. The incident took place at property owned by the estate of the late Sherald Johnson at 160 Coffey Road.A string of thefts has occurred at the property and surrounding ones recently. The latest occurred Monday. At that point, a family member erected a gate.He went back to check the gate Tuesday after lunch and found it had been pushed down. Upon investigation, he discovered three suspects in a Ford F-150 pickup pulling a small utility trailer. He held the alleged thieves at gunpoint until a massive police response arrived, according to sheriff Brad White.The original 911 dispatch went out at about 1:30 p.m.More to follow…
