Arrest made in Tice case; female suspect charged with murder; victim’s family issues statement

Sheriff Brad White and a GBI spokesperson have confirmed a female suspect was arrested Wednesday morning and is being questioned regarding the death here of Charles Raymond Tice, 85. Tice was last seen alive on March 1. His body was found at an undisclosed location on April 5 and crime lab techs have been trying to determine a cause of death since.

The GBI has arrested and charged Laquinda Shandrell Moreland, age 36, of Knoxville, TN, with Murder, Concealing the Death of Another Person, and False Statements in connection to the death of Charles Raymond Tice, age 85, of Barnesville, GA.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at about 5:15 p.m., the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist in a missing persons investigation. Tice had been missing since March 2025. On April 5, 2025, Tice’s remains were found in Lamar County.

Moreland was arrested in Griffin, GA and is currently booked at the Lamar County Jail.

Victim’s family issues statement:

Our family is heartbroken over the loss of our father whose life was taken from us far too soon. While nothing can undo the pain of this murder, we are grateful that the individual responsible has been identified and taken into custody.

We deeply appreciate the hard work and commitment of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in pursuing justice.

We now place faith in our legal system and pray that the court process brings the accountability and closure our family – and our father – deserve.

We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we navigate this difficult time.
