Arrest made in Turnipseed shooting; bond denied

A local man who is no stranger to law enforcement has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Deontez Turnipseed. Antonio Chapman, 25, of the #3 Washington Street address where the incident took place has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of marijuana and reckless conduct. He was denied bond at a first appearance hearing late Friday afternoon. Investigator Al Moltrum of the Barnesville Police Department said the shooting does appear to have been accidental. Chapman was putting away a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol when it went off. The round struck Turnipseed who later died. When Turnipseed was hit, he ran outside and Chapman followed. ”All the evidence, the witness reports and the autopsy results point toward an accidental shooting,” Moltrum said.
