Arthur W. Smith

Mr. Arthur W. Smith, 73, of 113 12th St., Barnesville, transitioned on Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the Upson Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held at noon Thursday, April 25, 2013 in the White’s Chapel CME Church. Pastor Randy King was assisted by pastor Rick Brooks. Interment was held in the Greenwood Cemetery. Trice Funeral Home, Inc., of Barnesville was in charge of all professional services. Arthur Smith married his high school sweetheart Essie Jacobs and to this union two children were born, David and Pamela. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Merritt of Griffin, Ga., and John Smith of Cleveland, Ohio. He leaves to cherish his memory a dedicated wife, Essie Smith; one son and one daughter, David (Adenekey) Smith of Grayslake, Ill., and Pamela (Vincent) Childs of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one brother, Charles (Olivia) Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Amos ‘Shawn’ Johnson of Lawrenceville, Ga., Joslynn Smith, Jasmine Smith and Jeremiah Smith, all of Grayslake, Ill., and Valencia Nealy, Terrence Childs and Tevin Childs, all of Barnesville, Ga.; one great-grandchild, ZaNya Nealy of Barnesville, Ga.; six sisters-in-law, Rose Merritt of Griffin, Ga., Hazel Freeman of Staten Island, N.Y., Myrtis Johnson of Fairfield, Conn., Thelma Treadwell of Newnan, Ga., Mildred Merchant and Gladys Allen, both of Barnesville, Ga., and Lula Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, Earl Jacob of New Haven, Conn., Carlton (Dorothy) Jacob and Clifford (Debra) Jacobs, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
