An Athens-Clark County police officer charged with terroristic threats and acts after threatening his estranged wife and her boyfriend entered a guilty plea to a lesser offense in Lamar superior court Aug. 22.Robert Ellis Britt of Jefferson pleaded guilty to harassing communications. As part of his plea deal he gave up his POST certification and can no longer work in law enforcement.Britt was arrested June 21 after his wife, Katherine Britt, recorded a phone message in which he threatened to kill her and her boyfriend if he found his kids at the boyfriend’s house. Britt had been out on a $20,000 bond prior to his court appearance.Judge Bill Fears sentenced Britt to 12 months probation and fined him $300. He must attend anger management counseling and have no violent contact with the victims.Katherine Britt was in Lamar County at the time the threat was received and recorded.
