An Atlanta man was arrested just inside the Bibb County line on I-75 Dec. 19. His Mercedes reached speeds over 90 mph even after two tires were shredded by stop sticks deployed in the roadway.Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an Atlanta man after a chase today, Dec. 19, 2013, that ended just inside the Bibb County line. Numerous motorists on I-75 began calling the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center just before 2:00 p.m. saying that a black sports car was speeding in excess of 100 m.p.h. and being driven erratically on I-75 southbound near mile marker 185. Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and attempted to pull over the 2013 black Mercedes.The Mercedes slowed to 65 m.p.h., would not stop and continued drifting between lanes and into and out of the emergency lane. Near the Pate Road overpass, spike strips were used and the left front and rear tires were damaged. The suspect then sped up to 94 m.p.h. as the tires then rims disintegrated. The Mercedes eventually wrecked just inside the Bibb County line at mile marker 171 in the median on I-75. The driver of the Mercedes, Robert Magbee, 27, of Atlanta was removed from the wrecked car and taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment of nonlife threatening injuries. He is being charged with: failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, speeding 94/65, littering a highway, fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and DUI drugs.
