Aubrey Lee Kendrick

Mr. Aubrey Lee Kendrick, 96, of Bailey Mill Road, Barnesville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 at his home. He was born on June 28, 1918 in Upson County, son of the late Will Lee Kendrick and Addie Elliott Kendrick, and was a life-long resident of Upson County. During World War II Mr. Kendrick served in the United States Army. He served in the 8th Infantry Division, 121st Infantry Regiment, also known as the Gray Bonnets. His unit came ashore at Normandy on July 4, 1944 and he participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. Mr. Kendrick was an electrician for Thomaston Mills. He also raised chickens and was a dedicated cattleman and vegetable gardener. Mr. Kendrick is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia; and three sons, Wayne (Mary) of Union Grove, Ala., and Steve (Kitty) and Mark (Diana) of Barnesville; son-in-law, Dale Royal of Barnesville; four grandchildren, Jason (Anne) Royal of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Jennifer (Chris) Butler of Griffin, Stephanie (Ben) Durham of Barnesville and Will Kendrick of Barnesville; one great-grandchild, Caroline Durham; three step-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Royal. Funeral services for Mr. Kendrick were held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Jeffrey Morgan officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2269 Yatesville-Barnesville Rd, Yatesville, Ga., 31097; or to a favorite charity.
