Austin will stay, be disciplined

Derick Austin will remain principal at LCCHS but will be disciplined. The school board met in closed session for nearly two hours before superintendent Dr. Bill Truby made the announcement. ”We are pleased with Mr. Austin and he will remain as our high school principal.” The board vote was unanimous. Here is the full board statement as read into the record at the meeting by board chair Susan Byars: ”While we realize that there are no legal positions to take at this time, we also know that there is nothing substantive here to report to the Professional Standards Commission. Thus, our role is to administer an appropriate discipline commensurate with what we know to be factual and true. Therefore, we recommend that the superintendent follow through with the board of education’s directive of local and not permanent consequences.” The 40 people in attendance – Austin supporters including family, friends, students, parents and coworkers – at the meeting broke into cheers and gave the board a standing ovation.
