The nominations period is over and tickets are only available until Friday for the 29th annual Community Awards Banquet at the Barnesville Civic Center Thursday Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.Tickets are available at the chamber until Friday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. for $25. The chamber sponsors two awards, the Outstanding Citizen and Business Person of the Year. Last year’s recipient of the Outstanding Citizen was Barnesville Mayor Peter L. Banks. The recipient for Business Person of the Year was Carlton Maynard, owner of G&M Enterprises.The Lions Club will give the Volunteer of the Year Award; the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year will be awarded by the Dewaine T. Bell Difference Maker Organization; the Farmer of the Year Award will be sponsored by the Barnesville-Lamar County Farm Bureau, the Career Woman of the Year Award by the Barnesville Rotary Club and the Brittain Cauthen Firefighter of the Year Award by the Barnesville-Lamar County fire departments.This year’s menu will include garlic mushroom stuffed pork loin, oven roasted pesto potatoes, brandy glazed carrots, olive and rosemary baguette, tossed winter greens salad and caramel apple cheesecake.
