Back to School Bash is August 1

The 8th annual Lamar County community-wide Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ed Taylor Memorial Recreation Complex on Gordon Road in Barnesville. ’The goal of the Back to School Bash is to provide parents and community members with the knowledge of local resources for families and to provide essential school supplies to over 1,700 Lamar County youth,’ said April Smith, chair. Amy Banks is cochair. The event will include booths from the Lamar County school system on site to help parents learn about Title I and how they can become involved in the Title I program. Also, several local and state agencies will have booths on site for parents to visit and gather information that may empower youth and families, Smith added. ’All interested persons are invited to participate in the 2015 Back to School Bash by donating book bags, school supplies or funds. Your contributions will make the difference in helping us exceed our goal, reach more youths and prepare Lamar County students for the 2015-2016 school year. Organizations may also contribute with giveaways, information and handouts about the services provided in Lamar County,’ Smith said. Financial contributions may be made with checks payable to the ‘A. D Smith Community Service for the BTSB’.’ Please bring or send all supplies and/or financial contributions no later than July 30, 2015 to A.D. Smith Community Service, Inc. at 188 Mill Street, E.P. Roberts Center. Vendors are asked to bring their own tent, table, chairs and all equipment needed to display your organization’s information. Refreshments and water will be provided for all participants. For questions or concerns as well as information about donations, contact April Smith at 770-358-3311 or Amy Banks at 770-358-5891. ’Working together, we will help shape the future of our youth and improve their overall well-being.
