Volunteers and vendors are needed for the sixth annual Lamar County Community-Wide Back to School Bash will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Ed Taylor Memorial Recreation Complex.The goal of the Back to School Bash is to provide parents and community members with knowledge of local resources for families and school supplies to over 1,700 Lamar County youth.The bash will have booths from the Lamar County school system to help parents learn about Title I and how they can become involved in the program. Several local and state agencies will have booths for parents to gather information that may help youth and families.’We invite you to take part in the Back to School Bash,’ said chairperson April Smith. Vendors are still being sought. The church has arranged for fun, food, games.First Baptist Church of Barnesville is sponsoring a prayer walk around the Lamar County public schools the day before school begins, on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Prayer walking is simply praying as you are walking.’The community is invited to join us in this special time of prayer,’ said Rev. Garth Forster. ‘We believe prayer works, and praying for our schools is the best way to ensure they’ll have a great year.’Participants will meet around the front of the Fine Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. for some Christian music, lemonade refreshments, and instructions.At 6:45 p.m. they will be given a general prayer list and asked to pick a school around which to pray.Bethel Baptist Church of Barnesville will hold a Back to School Prayer Hour Monday, August 5, at 6:30 a.m.’Back to School Prayer Hour is about inviting God to be part of school life, and affirming support for those who are part of the local school community,’ said Linda Olivier. ‘It’s an opportunity to commission young people as well as school staff to enter the new year focused on God and to encourage ongoing prayer throughout the year.’ For information call 7700-358-1720 or visit bethelbaptistbarnesville.org.
