Volunteers and vendors are needed for the sixth annual Lamar County Community-Wide Back to School Bash will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Ed Taylor Memorial Recreation Complex.The goal of the Back to School Bash is to provide parents and community members with the knowledge of local resources for families and provide essential school supplies to over 1,700 Lamar County youth.The bash will have booths from the Lamar County school system onsite to help parents learn about Title I and how they can become involved in the Title I program. Also, several local and state agencies will have booths on-site for parents to visit and gather information that may help youth and families.’We cordially invite you to participate in the 2013 Back to School Bash,’ said chairperson April Smith.’Your contributions will make the difference in helping us exceed our goal, reach more youths and prepare Lamar County students for the 2013-14 school year.’Smith and co-chair Amy Banks ask the community to take part by donating funds that will help in the overall cost of this event to purchase book bags and supplies and rent inflatables; school supplies to be placed in the book bags; and giveaways, information and handouts about the services organizations provide in Lamar County.’If you elect to make a financial contribution, please make checks payable to the A.D. Smith Community Service for the ‘˜BTSB’ ,’ said Banks. ‘Please bring or send all supplies and/ or financial contributions no later than July 27 to A.D. Smith Community Service.’Vendors are still being sought. All vendors should bring their own tents, tables chairs and all equipment they will need to display their organization’s information.
