Lamar County schools open their doors – and remote learning portals – Wednesday in perhaps the most unusual opening day in the history of education in Georgia. Lamar is offering students two options: face-to-face, in-class instruction or remote learning. Many area systems have nixed in-person classes resulting in a record number of out-of-county students seeking waivers to enroll here. The system is expecting about 2800 students to start school one way or another. As of Friday, those choosing remote only numbered 177 at LCPS, 201 at LCES, 181 at LCMS and 222 at LCHS. That amounts to approximately 29% of total expected enrollment.Parents are asked to make sure they sign in to the parent portal that will provide them with access to class schedules, attendance records and grades.
