By Sherri EllingtonLamar County is looking at funding a security person for the recreation department in the wake of reports about parents ‘“ and coaches ‘“ behaving badly. At events, especially U6 football, several reports of parents fighting and becoming verbally abusive have come in. These parents have been removed from the recreation fields ‘“ sometimes with difficulty ‘“ and some have even been banned. In addition, commissioners discussed two former coaches, who were leading the same team, getting into an altercation during a game. Their wives got involved and one of the coaches reportedly told his wife to strike the other woman. The coaches were relieved of their duties, said commissioner Charles Glass.’They take it really seriously,’ said commissioner Benny Horton. ‘They need to be teaching their children better behavior. This isn’t pro ball.’ If a deputy is assigned to provide security, adults acting up will be arrested and charged with criminal trespass, said Glass. ‘Football is the worst,’ he said. ‘Soccer has little to no misbehavior.’
