Bailey to address GSC grads

Gordon State Alumnus Fredrick Bailey will address the graduating class during Fall 2018 Commencement Friday, Dec. 7.The event will be held in the Student Activities and Recreation Center starting at 9 a.m. The Fine Arts Auditorium also will be open for additional viewing of the ceremony.Labeled as an at-risk student, Fredrick Bailey had to overcome insurmountable obstacles. Living in an impoverished neighborhood where he struggled for survival and experienced physical abuse, Fredrick recalls many days with no electricity, food, or parental care.In spite of these obstacles, Fredrick was able to attend Gordon State College and finally break generational family curses. During his time in college, Fredrick was honored to speak to a variety of nonprofit organizations and local business meetings about how he overcame the negative experiences in life.Fredrick is the first Bill and Jean Milliken Fellow of Communities in Schools, Inc., the world’s largest dropout prevention organization.He lives in the Washington, D.C. area.Of the 310 students who met requirements to graduate, 215 are expected to participate in the ceremony.After the ceremony graduates and their guests are invited to enjoy brunch in Highlander Dining Hall for a nominal fee.At 12 graduates of the nursing program will gather in the SARC with family and friends for the candlelight pinning ceremony.
