Banquet changes venue; award nominees announced

The annual Chamber of Commerce community awards banquet is changing venues from the civic center to The Farley Estate on Hwy. 36 East and High Falls Park Rd. The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Ashleighanne Andrews will serve as emcee and tickets are $35 each. Multiple awards will be presented including STAR student, career woman of the year, law enforcement officer of the year, firefighter of the year, volunteer of the year, business person of the year and outstanding citizen of the year. The chamber has announced the nominees for the three awards it presents. Those nominated for outstanding citizen of the year are Glen Allen, Christopher Deraney, Dr. E.H. Harris and Evelyn Harris, Kelly Hughes and Brad White. Those nominated for business person of the year are Sherry Farr and Kip Pelt while those nominated for volunteer of the year are Beverly Eskridge and Ashley Gilles.
