Barker’s search dogs help find survivors

When the tornados struck April 28, Michelle Barker noted she had no damage to her home. While she and her two search dogs were out helping find survivors and tracking missing pets, she had no idea she had suffered a loss of her own. Her horse trailer, complete with horse, tack and a living area used when she takes her tracking dogs on searches, was parked in Sunnyside, which also took a hit. ’A tree crushed my trailer, killed my horse and destroyed everything inside it,’ Barker said. ‘I talked to (IDA director) Missy Kendrick at the chamber and she arranged for me to get a trailer from Jordan Fillamin of Smyrna. I don’t know how she orchestrated that, but she did and it was a very nice thing to do. There are still people who do nice things. I also do tracking and obedience classes. Tracking is a good service to have. You never know when things are going to happen.’
