Several events have been planned for Halloween week, including two rescue society fundraisers and three church events.As usual, the residential areas of downtown Barnesville will be the site for trick or treaters on Halloween night itself, Oct. 31.The Dolly Goodpuppy Society’s fifth annual Barks ‘˜n’ Boos Fall Festival will be held this Saturday, Oct. 19, from 1-4 p.m. at Barnesville Self Storage. Adults, children and their leashed, public-friendly, non-aggressive dogs may attend.Halloween attire is encouraged and prizes will be awarded for best dog and owner costumes. A variety of carnival games and activities will be offered. At the adoption and donation booth, attendees can meet and greet puppies and dogs available for adoption and make donations. Needed items include canned and dry food, collars, leashes, toys, metal bowls, towels, plastic grocery bags and cash donations to cover the cost of inoculations, de-worming and other necessary medications.Ticket prices are $5 per person and include lunch, entry into all costume contests and eligibility for door prizes. Additional 25-cent tickets will be sold at the event for games and activities, with most priced at one to six tickets.Proceeds will benefit the educational and rescue efforts of the DGS, a nonprofit organization and licensed rescue. There will be free parking and admission. Money will be raised by 25 cent activity tickets and supper concessions.There will be costume contests, old-fashioned games with prizes for all, a cupcake walk, auction and door prizes. Children must be accompanied by adult.Lilla Memorial Baptist will hold its fall festival, Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3-6 p.m. The church asks that no scary or evil costumes be worn, though costumes are welcome. There will be a bounce house, hay rides, dunking booth, games, concessions, candy and a cake walk.First United Methodist will hold its Family Fun Fest Thursday, Oct. 31, from 5-7 p.m. It is offering free corn dogs and popcorn to first 200 people to arrive. The event will feature games, candy and prizes.First Baptist will hold its community Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. in the gym parking lot.Barnesville Nazarene Church will hold its annual Trunk or Treat on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6-9 p.m. This is a family friendly community event with free hotdogs, chili and family fun.
