Barnesville remembers

One of two local 9/11 remembrance events has been held and another is coming up Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York. Woodmen of the World Lodge 199 and the Lamar County fire department will hold a 10th anniversary In Honor and Remembrance Ceremony for the victims and heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the former Lamar County water authority building Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. ’Woodmen of the World members and associates all over the nation organize In Honor and Remembrance ceremonies yearly,’ said Lodge 199 president Maxine Gibson. ‘These special patriotic events give members, family and friends a chance to grieve over lives lost that tragic day and pay respect to heroes who responded. It’s evolved into a public forum to thank local firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians and the brave men and women who lost their lives or are serving in the war against terrorism.’
