Barnesville voters go to the polls today

Voters in Barnesville’s Ward 1 and Ward 3 go to the polls today to cast ballots in two city council races. The polling place at the civic center on Forsyth Street will be open from 7 a.m-7 p.m.

Ward 1 incumbent Bill Claxton is being challenged by Christopher Deraney. Ward 3 incumbent Sammie Shropshire faces challenger Andreas Romero.

Voter interest during the advance voting period, which ended Friday at 5 p.m., was lukewarm. Elections superintendent Anita Reid and her staff served 136 early voters and received 63 absentee ballots.

There are 837 registered voters in Ward 1 and 826 in Ward 3, according to Reid.
