Barnesville will be abuzz with Battle of the Bones events this weekend as the festival kicks off May 1-2 and includes the first ever Color of the Pig 5K Saturday morning, the Friday Night Family Fun Concert, a custom car show, golf cart decorating contest, musical entertainment, the kid’s park and of course fresh-cooked barbecue.The Dewaine T. Bell Music Scholarship will be awarded Friday night at the Family Fun Night Concert headlined by Lady Creech and the MainStreet Band at 8:30 p.m. Family Fun Night will also feature the kid’s park, open from 5-9 p.m. and community cookoffs with music by Autumn Clark from 5 to 6:15 p.m. and Big Dirty Sid from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.The Color of the Pig 5K will hit the road early with an 8 a.m. race time and 7 to 7:45 a.m. check-in and registration at the Gordon College lower parking lot. Proceeds from the color run will benefit two local scholarships through the Lamar County Family Connection Collaborative. Race participants will receive a map of the route, race bib, white t-shirt and choice of color packet. For more, stop by the chamber office or call 770-358-5884.Also on Saturday, the Kid’s Park will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the People’s Choice BBQ Tasting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Backyard Competition at 12 noon.The Battle of the Bones Car Show will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2 in the United Bank parking lot with awards presented at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per entry and trophies will be awarded to the top vehicles. Judging will be held at 2 p.m. and the People’s Choice award will be judged based on $1 votes for the favorite vehicle. Cars, trucks and motorcycles can register and a 50/50 raffle will be held. The FBA awards will be presented at 5 p.m.Battle of the Bones t-shirts are $12 or $15 for 2-4XL and can be purchased at the chamber offices. The Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce has hosted an annual BBQ festival for 11 years now and it was formerly called BBQ and Blues.A raffle for a custom-made fire pit and grill will be held to benefit varsity and junior cheerleaders from Lamar County Comprehensive High School. Tickets will be $2 for 1, $5 for 3 and $10 for 7 tickets and they may be purchased from cheerleaders or from the chamber office. The winner of the Battle of the Bones Grill Raffle will be announced Saturday at the festival, but participants do not have to be present to win.
