Though plans for a pageant dried up due to a lack of interest, BBQ & Blues 2022 is gearing up with sweet sounds and savory treats on the menu April 8-9.
Organizers are expecting 35 cook teams to participate in the GBA-sanctioned cook-off. They will start arriving Thursday, April 7 in time for the traditional kickoff party to be held at United Bank from 5-7 p.m.
The main event concert will be held Friday night in the grassy area near the United Bank drive-thru operation off Greenwood Street. Adult attendees can keep their kids occupied with a free Kids Park.
The traditional Taster’s Alley will also be presented in conjunction with the concert.
For the first time, a VIP seating area will be set aside for the concert. Tables of eight cost $125. The fee includes a free bottle of champagne.
Friday’s concert headliner is JB Strauss, Barnesville native and up and coming Nashville star. Caleb Anthony and the Holliday Troubadours will open for Strauss and his band.
The BBQ teams will cook through the night Friday with turn-in times scattered through the afternoon on Saturday. The People’s Choice competition will also be held Saturday.
Free music is on tap all day Saturday. Strauss and Anthony will do an acoustic set at 11 a.m. followed by El Diablos at 12:15 p.m.
Jackie and the OGs take the stage at 1:15 p.m. A local band, they are bringing in Nashville recording artist David Hawkins on pedal steel guitar and will do a follow-up show Saturday night at the VFW Club.
