The BBQ & Blues committee has designed the logo for its 2012 festival in honor of the late Doug Walter. Walter, known as Captain Doug, worked tirelessly behind the scenes at the festival until his sudden death last September. “When I needed something, I called Doug,” chamber president Amanda Rose said Monday as the artwork was unveiled. Rose and event chairman T.J. Imberger presented a barbecue cutting board with an imprint of the logo to Doug’s wife, Susan. The logo shows the event’s iconic pig holding a carpenter’s hammer rather than a fork, saluting Capt. Doug’s carpentry skills. The Fleur de Lis from the scout logo is included due to his longtime leadership in Boy Scouts. Also included is one of Capt. Doug’s famous quotes, “Either you’re in or you’re out. I’m in.”
