By Walter Geiger BBQ & Blues does not happen without sponsors, volunteers and city and county labor. It also cannot be safely held without closing off some streets and parking lots. Greenwood St.: Will be closed from the United Bank drive-thru area to its intersection with Lamar St. from 5 p.m. Thursday to midnight Saturday. Swatts St.: Will be open for for access to the chamber office area but its intersection with Greenwood St. will be closed. Avoid it at all costs from 5 p.m. Thursday to midnight Saturday. Holmes St.: Section between Thomaston and Greenwood streets will be closed from 5 p.m. Thursday to midnight Saturday. Library St.: Section between Thomaston and Greenwood streets will be closed from 5 p.m. Thursday to midnight Saturday. Market St.: Will remain open throughout the festival but expect congestion and drive carefully. Watch for children, cook team members and festival goers. Forsyth St.: The section between Main St. and College Dr. will be closed from 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Parking lots: The front portion of the United Bank parking lot will be closed from 5-8 p.m. Thursday for the kickoff party/ after hours. The entire lot will be closed at 5 p.m. Friday for the car show. The Stafford Block, old FNB, courthouse and Chamber of Commerce lots will be closed throughout the festival. The Ritz Park lot will close from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Saturday. Event chairman T.J. Imberger reports closure signs are up and downtown businesses have received letters regarding the restrictions. Golf carts: Carts, other than those with authorization, will be restricted to public areas and will not be allowed in the cook team camps. ‘We have had some problems with them being in the area of all the grills in the past and are going to try to rein that in some,’ Imberger said. If you have questions about parking, road closures or other matters, contact the chamber office at 770-358-5884.
