BBQ Pitmasters to film episode at BBQ & Blues

By Walter Geiger The Barnesville BBQ & Blues Festival landed a big promotional fish when Destination America television confirmed it would film an episode of the hit series BBQ Pitmasters during the cookoff here next month. Jessica Nicola of the Discovery television has confirmed the show will lens an episode here. The set will be built on a grassy area at The Herald-Gazette office on Greenwood Street. The festival will be expanded down Greenwood so competition cook teams will line the street in the set area, according to BBQ & Blues committee chairman T.J. Imberger. The Pitmasters crew will move in on Wednesday, April 24 and be in town through Sunday. Set construction and placing teams along Greenwood Street will require some rerouting of traffic in the area of the set. BBQ Pitmasters is a reality show which travels to the top barbecue festivals in the country, showcasing America’s hardcore grillers competing for one of five spots in a final cookoff. Judges Myron Mixon, Tuffy Stone and Aaron Franklin star in the series. Mixon’s Old South BBQ team has competed at BBQ & Blues multiple times. ’This is a big deal for us. Having Pitmasters film here will be an economic boon to Barnesville- Lamar County and great publicity for our community and the festival,’ Imberger said.
