BBQ to benefit Keith Morris

Keith Morris, longtime Lamar County resident who is known for his acts of kindness, is in need of financial support in his battle against colon cancer. Family and friends will provide barbecued chicken for sale June 16 with all proceeds going toward Morris’s medical bills. Morris, 56, has worked in construction and with Balamo Building Supply and Bankston Lumber. A single man, he moved in with a friend and allowed the Tommy Batchelor family to live in his home after theirs was destroyed in last year’s tornado. Cathy Batchelor described Morris as ‘a Godsend … we needed help with a place to live, and he was there for us.’ The chicken-cue will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the United Bank parking lot across the street from the main office. Tickets are $8 and are required for all plates. The meal includes a one-pound leg quarter, potato salad, baked beans and bread. To pre-purchase tickets, contact MaryBeth Morris Mitchell, 678-544-2373; Rachel Dunn Whitner, 678-967-1586; Lee Ann Calloway Thompson, 770-468-8798, or Rebecca Morris Mitchell, 678-544-1857.
