Berlyn Gregory Akins

Berlyn ‘Bert’ Gregory Akins, formerly of Barnesville, passed away Nov. 27, 2012 with her loving family at her side. She was born in Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 26, 1930 and moved to Barnesville as a child with her parents Henry and Alma Salter Gregory. In September 1950 she married William ‘Bill’ Bruce Akins and had a long, happy marriage until his death in 1991. Her daughter, Donna Sue Akins Beck, son-in-law Tom Beck, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren from her late son, Wayne Akins, survive her along with Lottie Gober, a cousin/sister and other loved family members. The family moved to Atlanta in 1970. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked in the family business and was a key contributor in the day-to-day processes. She loved her job and was loved by all the employees. She was “Mama Akins”. After her husband passed in 1991 she began to travel with good friends and family. She traveled the world and loved to reminisce about all the wonderful times she had. She will be missed ‘“ she was loved by many. She truly loved her family, friends and her cat, Rotten. A private service will be held later. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association or to Fur Kids.
